In order to spice sumotalk.com up a
bit, we will list our predictions for the yusho
(tournament champion) and sansho (special prizes) for
each basho.
There are three special prizes the Sumo Kyokai
may award to rikishi for noteworthy performances during the basho. As for the three sansho,
a rikishi must win a majority of his bouts (8 wins) to qualify, its possible
for the same rikishi to be awarded more than one prize, and sometimes the Sumo Kyokai may not award any special prizes at all. The three special prizes are: shukunsho (outstanding performance), kantosho
(fighting spirit prize), ginosho
(technical merit prize).
We will list Kenji, Mike, and
Simons predictions for the last year below.
If a viewer sends in a correct prediction, we will post that as well
after the basho.
Past correct predictions are highlighted in green, past incorrect
predictions are highlighted in red, and current predictions are highlighted in light blue. Also, the rank will be listed in parenthesis
next to the rikishis name. Since any bonehead can usually pick a
Yokozuna to win it all, it should be noted that picking correctly a
non-Yokozuna to yusho is an outstanding feat. Probably more difficult than picking the
winner or runner up is picking any of the sansho
correctly. One who can do that is truly
an expert. Viewers
may send in their predictions up until the Makuuchi
bouts begin on day one (2:30 am EST).
