Kisenosato, Myogiryu shake off injuries for keiko

Feb. 26th - Ozeki Kisenosato has reportedly been practicing for the last two weeks coming off of his dismal performance in January where he finished 7-8 in a tournament where he was up for Yokozuna promotion. With tape still on his big toe, Kisenosato fought a total of 39 bouts against Takanoyama and Takayasu. After roughing up Takanoyama for six bouts in a row, the Ozeki struggled against Takayasu finishing 17-16. When asked afterwards about his big toe, Kisenosato said, "It's not bad, but Takayasu worked me out there." When asked about his first ever basho as a kadoban Ozeki, Kisenosato said, "If I make-koshi, it only means I drop a level."

As for Myogiryu who also withdrew from the Hatsu basho on day 4 resulting in his demotion to the M10 rank, he began his keiko workouts today against Makushita rikishi in his stable fighting 19 bouts and winning all of them. The former Sekiwake, who withdrew in January after a muscle pull in his rib cage area, indicated that his injury was healing nicely and he felt good in the keiko ring. "I know I worried a lot of people, but I am really confident going into this basho." Myogiryu is looking to win in double-digits for the first time from the Maegashira ranks since his Makuuchi debut back at the 2011 Kyushu basho.
