Endoh visits Kakuryu for first-ever de-geiko
session
Feb.
26th - Japan's new hope, Endoh, ventured out for his first ever de-geiko
experience yesterday visiting the Izutsu-beya to battle Ozeki Kakuryu.
The session was closed to the public; however, it was revealed that the
two fought 20 times. After the session, reporters caught up with Endoh
who commented, "That was a good wake-up call, but I think it went well."
Endoh's stablemaster, Oitekaze-oyakata, has forbidden Endoh from doing
de-geiko up until now, but the M1 explained, "My stablemaster wanted me
to stay home for one year to work on my body instead of doing de-geiko,
but he recently gave me the go sign. There are limits to just staying
put and practicing with Makushita rikishi." When asked of his impression
of Kakuryu after their session, Endoh explained, "He was strong. He'd
break off my mawashi grip with ease, he was quick, and really heavy.
He's definitely top class." As for Kakuryu, when asked about Endoh, he
offered, "His sumo was good and he looked relaxed in there. He also knew
when to release his power." Rumor has it that Endoh will be back for
more tomorrow against his likely day 1 opponent. |
