Hi!

Not sure how to get through June, without any sumo games to play? How about the Bench Euros - based on the football / soccer tournament about to start in a couple of weeks in France.....

Come over to this sumo forum link to find out more!

Re:  Message from the BSYDC
Here it is!  The Bench Sumo Yokozuna Deliberation Council Chair, the esteemed Marushiki, actually sent this to me about a month ago, but I managed to overlook it whilst I was away in the Philippines.  But, better late than never, here is her missive to the rijicho....

Venerable Richijo

The Bench YDC have met and heatedly debated the results of the Nagoya basho.

As every Bench Rikishi knows, the fickle hand of fate likes to laugh at some of us and put in our paths interesting challenges. One basho you can do fabulously well, and the next are crushed by poor performances of trusted teams.

In regard to Ozeki Kitakachiyama, We continue to encourage him to do his best, and keep practicing sumo to the highest form.  We offer out support and hope that the rest of 2016 continues to bring good things to him

In regard to Yokozuna Randomitsuki,  One of the wise and esteemed council mentioned that we seem to create a Wakanohana III.  eg:  Great Ozeki, struggles as Yokozuna.     We do continue to offer him support and encouragement to continue to find his stride that he had at the Ozeki Level.

As an aside, indeed to my very humble opinion (no reflection as to the thoughts of the other members of the YDC), have we created a curse? Every Yokozuna for the Bench seems to have similar experiences.

So we await now the next basho, in September, and wish not only these two excellent rikishi, but everyone in the BS game good picking and placing.

Marushiki (Chair YDC)

A post from Jakusotsu (over at the 'other' English language Sumo Forum)....

This is a copy of what I just posted on the Bench Sumo ML:

_______________________________________________

We had some minor hiccups recently, but this time we might be screwed for good.

The NSK page now switched their torikumi page from URL links to javascript, which seems to have busted Doitsuyama's results grabber. This primarily affects the SumoDB, which also feeds every game hosted on sumogames.de (apart from Golynohana's games, but his own grabber seems to be kaputt as well).

Only Doitsuyama can fix this, but he has been hard pressed for time recently, and this change is nothing to adapt quickly, I fear.

I don't want to paint things too black, but the affected games may be over this basho.

At least for Bench Sumo you can still get your entries in via these links:

Dear all,

I have been rather busy of late, but the following message was delivered to me a few days ago by the venerable Marushiki, chair of the Bench Sumo Yokozuna Deliberation Council.

****************
Venerable Richijo

Firstly, the YDC sadly accept the intai of Randomituski from Yokozuna ranking.

It was a short rein but memorable, we wish him well in future endeavours.   One of the YDC members suggested  instating "ichidai haridashi yokozuna" status.

It is hoped that Randomitsuki will keep playing as Randomitsuki II in future Basho, his presence will be missed should he completely leave.

In regard to Kitakachiyama, We are all very impressed with his performance over the last year.   It is with honour that we offer Kitakachiyama the promotions to Yokozuna.

The acceptance of this promotion is entirely up to his.  Given the experiences of previous Yokozuna, and knowing the challenges faced in the BS game, (Not to mention the possible Wakanohana II curse) .   Should he choose to decline promotion we fully understand.

 Marushiki (Chair YDC)
****************

Of course Kitakachiyama will accept the promotion! (and will be ranked at Yokozuna on the next banzuke.)  Omedetou!  Back-to-back yushos is impressive!

We look forward to reading Kitakachiyama's yusho acceptance speech, and his Yokozuna acceptance speech.

It is a new era of Bench Sumo - the Kitakachiyama era!

Hi all!

There is another promotion to announce.

Susanoo has done enough (30 wins over the past three bashos, with the last basho being ranked at Sekiwake) to be awarded re-promotion to Ozeki.

Omedetou!

It is hoped that this time, he will do better than during his last stint (in 2012), when he lasted for just bashos, with a combined score of 11-19.

We hope to hear his words on his promotion back to Ozeki!

Hi all!

Here is the new banzuke for November 2016.  This one was quite tricky to put together - but in the end, Jejima, Flohru and Kaiomitsuki managed to do it, (with Kintamayama, Ekigozan and Asashosakari looking on.)

Kitakachiyama becomes our newest Yokozuna. Susanoo returns to Ozeki. Randomitsuki (after his intai) rejoins the banzuke at ms10W, by the rijicho's invitation.

Overall, there seems to be decent amounts of good luck, with little bad luck.

Hi everyone!

In what might be a record time for recent years, here is the new banzuke for January 2017.  It was put together by Flohru, Kaiomitsuki and Jejima, with Kintamayama, Ekigozan and Asashosakari watching on.

It was fairly straight forward to put together - although there are pockets of bad luck, especially for MK players.

It is worth noting that former Yokozuna Randomitsuki is already ranked in lower Juryo.  I am guessing he could well be in the Makunouchi joi-jin by the end of 2017!

All the best,

Jejima

Hi everyone,

We all thought that this would be a tricky banzuke to put together, but in the end it turned out to be quite simple.   The banzuke making commitee are Flohru, Kaiomitsuki and me (Jejima), with Ekigozan, Kintamayama and Asashosakari looking on.

There are some players with real bad luck (apologies to those) - but also there are some players with lots of good luck (check out some of the promotions in Makunouchi!)

Anyways, here it is!

Hi all!

Going into the last basho, we had 5 Sekiwakes all on legitimate Ozeki runs!  Now that the dust has cleared, the Bench Banzuke committee is happy to announce that one of these five did more than enough to reach the required standard, and we now have a new bench Ozeki!

Step forward....

Rubensan!

The Sakura Ichimon's Rubensan's record over the past three basho has been....
March 2017 - M5W 11-4
May 2017 - K1W 10-5
July 2017 - S2E 10-5

This exceeds the guideline of 30 wins over three bashos, with the last two in sanyaku, and the very last one at Sekiwake.

Rubensan is a long-time player of Bench Sumo, so I am very pleased to announce his promotion.

I will be sending Oyakata's Flohru and Kaiomitsuki (the other banzuke makers), around to Rubensan's heya to officially announce the good news.  I hope that we will be hearing an acceptance speech from the shin-ozeki in due course!

Hi everyone!

Kaiomitsuki, Flohru and Jejima, under the watchful eyes of the emeriti Kintamayama, Ekigozan and Asashosakari, have crafted the new Bench Banzuke for September 2017.

This one was trickier than usual - especially as the sanyaku has been reduced from the bloated 10 in July, to the Bench Sumo's preferred standard of just 8.  Usually when a sanyaku downsizing happens, it means a knock-on effect for players with MKs in Makunouchi receiving more bad luck than usual - and for the MK players in the lower half of the top division, this has happened....  be warned!

Apart from the horrifying amounts of bad luck for some MK players in lower Makunouchi, the rest of the banzuke seems to be mostly devoid either of lots of luck, one way or the other.

Enjoy!
