Taikai may have initiated the throw, but ffs, Ama fought it to the stage where they were both just trying to be the last down.  In that case I don`t care who initiated the throw - the last man down, bar any circumstances to avoid injury, should be the man awardede the win.

Man, those were some sound-worthy b*tch slaps from Kise and Hakuho!  Looked like they had a bit of a conference after the bout.  Must have been exchanging dinner plans.

Pre Hak getting morozashi there was nothing between them.  I think it was looks processing how it could have gone the other way and acknowledging it as they faced eachother, like it or not.

Both M1 are 0-4 after a program from hell, but I think only Homie showed he wants to fight. The Sheriff is very slow and he lacks force.

On the age edges I like Kaio's and Goeido determination. And refering to Goeido did you noticed he's almost Asa's size and he's trying to adopt the same style?

I've watched the replay and taikai's hand is clearly down before Ama hits the dirt.  Bad decision on that one.  The 'aggressor' doesn't have carte blanche once he initiates a throw, he still has to have some dohyo-awareness and taikai's clearly left him moments before Ama landed.

Sakaizawa went 4-0 against Ichihara and Tosayutaka beat Yamamotoyama.  Iwonkeykong is tearing up juryo as expected.

How many gifts can they give Chiyo this basho?  I actually hollered out loud when I saw the bout on info-sumo (nobody in my office at the time).  That's two in a row, dammit!

Other than that, some pretty sorry sumo today.  What a shame.

Regarding the Ama-Chiyotaikai debacle, here's the sequence of events that I captured earlier today. Not much to say really, the pictures speak for themselves. Apologies if I am violating forum rules with this image heavy post.

Wow!  Great Post!  Clearly Chiyo touched down first.  I don't want to propagate the conspiricy theories, but if we have access to these stills, so do the judges.  One can only conclude that his heya Master, Kokonoe, former Yokozuna Chiyonofuji, who is one of the judges had a "hand" in this decision!  That makes 2 questionable calls in a row in Chiyo's favor.  Instead of 4-0 he could be 2-2 or at least 3-1!

Even the ref was watching closely and still pointed teh gunbai to Chiyo.  Guess we know what he was watching.

chiyos hand wasn't in sight for the judge it seems, even if he was looking closely

very good photos, its clear that chiyo touched the ground first. the only excuse for that could be the dead body rule, ama being in the air with no chance to get back... but this rule... ahem..

Possibly.  However, as has already been discussed yesterday on this topic, the judges have access to (and in most cases use) instant replay.  So they would have seen the same still images we see and yet still ruled in Chiyo's favor.  Draw your own conclusions, but I firmly believe his heya master gave him the win...

yes, but the call came without hesitation, and no one contested, so they didn't looked at the replay... i think they only do it when they have to discuss the decision... in "clear" bouts they probably don't even watch

wakanosato still without a loss... he is getting old, but he seems to be still too strong for the lower maegashira... well, most of them...

Doesn't matter.  The decision NOT to review and call a mono-ii is also the fault of the judges.  Why didn't they call it?  We all saw the same thing they did and we all questioned the result.  Are we better sumo analysts than the judges who do if for a living?  I think not.  Look at the photos again.  See the guys in the front row with the black robes?  Those are some of the judges.  They HAD to see it since their view is even better than ours!

Again, the same explanation can be given, Chiyo's heya master gave him the win.  Clearly, this basho (as in many other previous bashos) they are going to give all calls to Chiyo unless there is a clear win by his opponent.  'Nough said.
